New Beginnings at MwL!
Folks, this summer has been a doozy at MwL. With the briskness of Fall comes growth, change and excitement - on the personal and business front; although when you own a small business those two things can seem pretty damn intertwined.
Big fun news first - I (Sheena) got hitched last weekend on PEI! I still do call PEI 'Home' even though I've lived in Dartmouth for 5 years. The plan is to eventually be 'bi-provincial', because that's a thing, right? The wedding was simple and joyous, the weather was incredible, there was a lot of fairly aggressive dancing happening all night...so yeah. It was perfect!
On the topic of my beloved PEI - we're SUPER stoked to have our bars at Freshii in Charlottetown! It's our first Charlottetown location with hopefully more to come. It means so much to us to be embraced by my hometown and we are friggin' tickled to see MwL bars just flying off the shelf there at Freshii!
Other humongous news that you may/may not have already heard - our Loaded Oats instant oatmeal has made its way in to Sobeys in Halifax! It's nuts. We launched our Loaded Oats 2 years ago at the Seaport Market in Halifax and its packaging has evolved, but the deliciousness inside has remained constant. Going in to our local Sobeys and seeing them on the shelf there is just surreal! We're pounding pavement demo-ing them at stores pretty much every weekend for the foreseeable future. It's been an awesome opportunity to get back connected to our customers as since we've left the farmer's markets (we'll blame that departure on the 3 babies in 2.5 years between Kathy and I!) we have totally missed hanging out face-to-face with our awesome supporters.
The most rewarding part of this Sobeys adventure?
We've been able to essentially double production at our social-enterprise bakery/oatmeal production facility, allowing The Flower Cart in New Minas and The Prescott Group in Halifax to schedule more meaningful work hours for their program participants. That folks, is a huge driving force for us doing what we do. Every MwL bar and bag of Loaded Oats is crafted with care at these two amazing Nova Scotia enterprises, and it feels amazing knowing that all along the way we are making good things happen with our yummy products.
