Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
Inspiration: Why? Because the world needs it. The way mass capitalism and consumption has operated these past few decades has seen us destroy natural resources and the social fabric of communities in a way that the human race hasn't really experienced before. Businesses have the responsibility to be good global & local citizens and MwL's values align with the personal values of every person in our company.
Our core values are LOVE | NOURISH | COMMUNITY.
Our mission is to build & nurture our local community through local suppliers & social enterprises, and to be the voice of intuitive, mindful nourishment in the snack aisle.
What is a B Corp? Being a B Corp means we meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. It's more than just a one-time stamp of approval, though, as B Corp continually challenges companies to scale their positive impact and strive for constant improvements across all levels and facets of the company. To become a certified B Corp, a company must first submit to an independent assessment of its social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. If the company scores highly enough, it must then incorporate its social or environmental mission into its governance articles in order to be certified (it is subsequently reassessed every three years to make sure it is maintaining the required standard, as best practice evolves).
The Experience. Being part of the B Corp community means we are now connected to a global network of companies who are using their power & mission as a force for good in the world. For MwL, it means that as we grow, we're thinking about how each step, each decision, and our long-term vision aligns with our deep intention to enrich and strengthen our communities. We see B Corp as a 'north star' for us, holding us accountable and keeping us inspired to do better.
The Business Case. We see huge value in being part of the B Corp network and having access to some of the brightest minds in purpose-led businesses. Also, B Corps have exceptionally high staff retention, and are often positioned at a premium level in the marketplace as consumers are increasingly seeking to support businesses that are aligning with their personal values.
