When MwL co-founder Sheena became pregnant with her daughter in 2014, her belly soon got in the way while baking a growing number of Real Food Bars each week. She needed to find a solution - someone to help bake & package MwL Bars with the same care and love that MwL was known for.
Sheena was contacted by The Flowercart Group in the knick of time - their team reached out and asked if MwL had ever considered working with a production partner. Flowercart Group has a program called What's Cooking Commercial Kitchen Services which employs folks in rural Nova Scotia who have barriers to the mainstream workforce. Their clients were excited about the opportunity to be involved with MwL and in May 2014 they fully took over Real Food Bar production.
In 5 years, this partnership has grown by leaps and bounds, with kitchen expansions, equipment investments, building a team for shipping/distribution, and more.
Our bakeries provide invaluable work and training programs for folks who are experiencing barriers to the mainstream workforce and/or just require and extra supported work environment. When you support Made with Local you are helping us change the lives of deserving people in our communities by providing them with meaningful and fulfilling work opportunities.
