Role

As our community sales lead in the GTA, you will be our feet & heart on the ground in GTA and travelling regularly within Southern ON. You’ll build relationships with our existing retailers including Loblaws, Sobeys, Healthy Planet, Whole Foods Market, and MANY more.  You’ll visit and call stores to ensure our products are well-represented on shelf and that buyers and staff at the store level know our story, the key features of our products, and opportunities for growth & collaboration to ensure success in-store. 

 

You’ll be the driving force of bringing on new accounts in the GTA, building brand awareness and sharing the Made with Local story with independent and chain retailers that align with our channel strategy for bringing our nourishing foods to southern Ontario's best shops, cafés, and more. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties  

  • Creating and executing account management strategy for retailers in the GTA and Southern ON, including daily store visits, store check-in calls, product merchandising & most importantly building relationships at the store level and sharing the Made with Local story with buyers and retail staff 
  • Reporting to Made with Local Director of Sales consistently throughout the week to share data, experiences, opportunities and challenges
  • Work alongside the Made with Local sales & marketing team to ensure a seamless and consistent experience with our products for store level staff and retail customers
  • Grow Made with Local’s brand presence by identifying and executing on in-market events (when appropriate), connecting with influencers, opportunities for store or community event promotions, etc. 
  • Identifying and building relationships with values-aligned grassroots organizations for Made with Local to support through our community partnership initiatives

 

Qualifications 

  • AMAZING  communication skills are a must. You need to have an open, friendly communication style and not be afraid to be persistent -- this position involves warming up to a lot of retail staff that are really busy and balancing a lot of priorities 
  • Self-driven and a high level of accountability are a must. We are a small team based in Nova Scotia and you will be our first team member in ON. Finding someone who is trustworthy, reliable, and an open & honest communicator is imperative for us in this position
  • You are passionate about local food systems, the natural products industry, and social impact
  •   Data analysis skills are a must including a depth of knowledge with Excel and   Hubspot an asset 
  •   Sales and/or marketing experience necessary, specific experience in CPG a major asset.
  •   Experience in retail environments, including food/health products is an asset.
  •   Fearlessness to create content and execute progressive sales campaigns 
  •   Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with ambassadors and customers (retail and consumer level)
  •   Education background in business or marketing is considered an asset
  • Drivers license and vehicle required

Job Overview

 This position is open to a recent (last 12 months) grad of a masters or PhD level program. It is focused on Canadian and export growth for the Made With Local brand via marketing development and analysis,  through continual innovation & fine-tuning of our storytelling campaigns and e-commerce business. 

 Specific focus of this position will be to grow brand awareness, develop our ecommerce business, with a particular focus on improving customer acquisition costs and increasing our monthly recurring customer base. This person will also be responsible for building out our ecommerce export strategy into the US market. This will be achieved via experimentation and continual market analysis, and will be underpinned with strategic process improvements and software innovation to ensure new and existing systems are optimized. A minimum of 80% (4/5 days) of the candidate’s time will be spent on content creation, marketing research, product analysis, marketing strategy & implementation (primarily digital), and systems support development for e-commerce growth to improve business efficiencies and scaling opportunities. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Marketing content creation. You must be comfortable with and have experience in photo and video content creation, editing, and basic graphic design. You’re creative and scrappy and willing to push out of your comfort zone to create fun, inspiring content that shares Made with Local’s values & stories with the world. 
  • Market research and analysis of our key sales & marketing platforms (including but not limited to Hubspot, Quickbooks, FB, Instagram, Google Analytics, Shopify Analytics, and Mailchimp Analytics). 
  • Process execution and improvement of key software solutions being employed by MWL (including but not limited to Hubspot, Slack, G Suite, ShipStation, Shopify, UPS, CanadaPost, Facebook and Instagram, Quickbooks, Wordpress, Shopify App Plugins and more). 
  • Marketing campaign development and execution of key experiments (specific focus on developing new markets, improving existing markets, and 
  • Customer survey and customer data analysis to improve product market fit and identification of new opportunities in our R&D pipeline. 

Qualifications

  • Due to funding requirements, this candidate must have a Masters degree in a relevant field (preferably marketing, commerce, business, design thinking etc.) 

  • Amazing communication skills are a must. Our culture is one that is centred in openness, honesty and empathy. We are a small team that collaborate constantly on many projects and culture fit is absolutely essential

  • Passionate about local food systems, nutrition and social entrepreneurship 
  • Strong data analysis skills are a must
  • Sales and marketing experience is an asset, specific experience in CPG considered a major asset
  • Experience in retail environments, including food/health products is an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle and be willing to drive to various retailers for field analysis (mileage will be compensated)
  • Multilingualism is an asset - especially French.
