For the fifth year in a row, we are disrupting the Black Friday noise with something really special -- our Give Back Friday initiative.
Instead of offering deep discounts, we will be to donating proceeds from our online store on Friday, November 27th to will be donated to two very special Canadian organizations.
This year, food security in Canada has been recognized as a national emergency. COVID-19 has meant that more Canadians are struggling to meet their food needs with children and BIPOC communities bearing the brunt of the pain.
That’s why this year’s Give Back Friday means so much to us. We love a good deal as much as the next person -- but even more than that, we love knowing that we’re helping to nourish and support our community and the organizations that are fighting for what we believe in – that all Canadians should have access to healthy, nourishing, culturally appropriate food.
This year we’re supporting two amazing organizations for Give Back Friday: Hope Blooms from right here in Nova Scotia (a familiar name to Made with Local diehards) and FoodShare in Toronto. Get to know a little about them below, and we hope you’ll shop with us November 27th for Give Back Friday 2020!
Here at Made with Local we’ve been huge admirers of Halifax’s own Hope Blooms since day one! Hope Blooms offers innovative programs and initiatives that are designed around empowering youth to be actively engaged in building environments that impact their communities. This includes tackling food security, education, social inclusion and disrupting the cycle of poverty. They are working to put together food baskets & treats for 86 families in Halifax this holiday season and our donation will support this, and other amazing initiatives they have in the works!
Made with Local is setting down new roots in the GTA and as part of becoming integrated into the community - it was important for us to partner with an organization on the ground in that community, too. FoodShare collaborates with those most affected by poverty and food insecurity — specifically black, indigenous, people of colour, people with disabilities – to promote food justice. Their goal is to inspire long-term solutions for a food system where everyone has access to affordable, fresh, nutritious food. They have dozens of incredible programs that inspire the heck out of us and are making incredible impact in their community. We're honoured to be partnered with FoodShare as our first ever Give Back Friday partner in Ontario.
